"Kennedy's Got Talent" shines

The talent was shining at the recent "Kennedy's Got Talent" Show. Winning first place was Nicole Ly (left) with an incredible 'you-had-to-see-it-to-believe-it' performance on Chinese Yo Yo (click here to view that winning performance). Murray Kemp pumped the audience with an original rap song for second place. Also wowing the crowd to win third place were Jorge Papoca and Nathan Johnson (see below), Coordinators for this event were Mr. Telschow and Ms. Grohs. Born Again Jock scholarships offered
The Jerry Malosky Born Again Jock (BAJ) Scholarship, which was established to assist Bloomington students who have the ability and desire to pursue an education beyond high school, is now available. An application form can be downloaded here, and the criteria information can be downloaded here. Each scholarship award is for $1,000 and the deadline to apply is April 12, 2010.

Academic Lettering applications due soon

Academic Lettering applications can be picked up in the administrative office starting March 18 (Thursday). The deadline for submitting those applications is Wednesday, March 31, 2010. Additional information about the distribution of letters/pins will be made available after spring break.


Art honors earned by JFK students

Students in the Kennedy High School Art program were recently honored for their artistic talents in the 2010 Minnesota Scholastic Art Award competition. Five Kennedy students were judged to be among the best in the state of Minnesota. A panel of art education professionals from across the country judged the competition, which was administered by the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD). Earning Silver Key honors were: Nantaporn Sinchai (Silver Key, Merit Award, and Merit Award-Portfolio) and Olivia Wood (Silver Key). Earning Merit Awards were Karin Johnson, Jen Silverman, and Raeann Oxborough.


Graduation planning underway for seniors

Kennedy graduation is June 10:

Minneapolis Convention Center

 

Graduation planning is already in full swing as Kennedy seniors prepare for their June 10, 2010 graduation date. This year the graduation ceremony will be held at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Seating will be more limited than in years past, but parking in nearby ramps and lots will be plentiful. Cost of graduation this year is $65. Fees and registration forms are due to be turned in to Carol Seal in the attendance office by Tuesday, April 20th. For more info and for the registration form, click here. ACT and SAT test registrations due soon

Students planning on attending college as a post-secondary choice will need to take either the ACT or SAT placement exam. The registration deadlines for these tests are quickly approaching. The registration deadline for the next ACT test *was* Friday, March 5th. The registration deadline for the next SAT test is March 25th. Registration materials are available in the Counseling Office. Please see Mrs. Mayerle or your counselor if you have any questions.


AP Exam: focus on these dates

Tuesday, March 23 --  Required Pre-Registration meeting for all students taking AP Tests during Team Time/Tutorial in the auditorium.

LaCrosse captain's practices start Monday, March 8

Kennedy boys' lacrosse will be holding captain's practices in the main gym from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the following dates:

Monday, March 8 through Thursday, March 11;

Monday, March 15 through Thursday, March 18;

Monday, March 22 through Thursday, March 25.

There will be adult supervision for these sessions, and there is no charge for these sessions.

An informational meeting for parents and players will be held on Monday, March 15 in the JFK HS Cafeteria at 8 p.m. Coach Oberhamer will be there to answer any questions. Contact Karen Van Sloun at karen.vansloun@gmail.com or at 952-881-2386.

"Kennedy's Got Talent" show brings out guitarists

The variety of talents at the "Kennedy's Got Talent" show March 4 was considerable, but you knew there had to be guitarists lurking in the shadows of the stage. Shown here are Jorge Popoca (left) on guitar and harmonica and Nathan Johnson on lead guitar. They played "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" and earned third place in the talent show. Click here to view their song. The talent show featured Chinese Yo Yo, original rap songs, dancing, singing, comedy (by the MCs) and quite a few other unique talents.
