| Jefferson Theatre Company to present The Crucible
Jan. 5, 2010
Bloomington Jefferson High School Theatre Company will present Arthur Miller’s The Crucible on Thursday, Feb. 18 through Friday, Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 21 at 3 p.m. in the school’s auditorium, 4001 W. 102nd St.
The Crucible, based on events of the 1692 Salem witchcraft trials, is a powerful depiction of how intolerance and mass hysteria can tear a community apart. Former servant Abigail Williams accuses John Proctor’s wife of witchcraft. In the wake of Abigail’s charges, additional accusations and counter-accusations from all sides of the community erupt. This classic American play is a powerful parable about McCarthyism, the themes of religious persecution and the value of personal strength.
Eight of the 10 leading roles will be played by Jefferson’s seniors including, John Proctor performed by Peter Ehlinger, Giles Corey portrayed by Matt Ervin, Tituba played by Joann Imasuen, Rev. John Hale played by Dan Larson, Rebecca Nurse played by Lauren Murphy, Mary Warren played by Bridget Roepke, Elizabeth Proctor performed by Natalie Schmit and Rev. Samuel Parris played by Tom Ward. Junior Haley Schirber and Chris Bernard will play Abigail Williams and Deputy-Governor Danforth respectively.
“This play showcases the wonderful talent of many of our senior actors who audiences have enjoyed watching these past four years,” says Laura Schmidt, Director of Jefferson’s The Crucible. “I urge everyone to come and see these phenomenal performances of a gripping story in our American history.”
