Metro Spelling Bee
Feb. 1, 2010
After 13 grueling rounds of spelling words like, “cajolery,” “agoraphobia,” and “hallucination,” Anders Billund-Phibbs, a sixth grade student at Oak Grove Middle School, won the title of Top Speller at the 2010 Bloomington Spelling Bee on Thursday, Jan. 28.
Billund-Phibbs will compete against Minnesota’s best spellers in the Twin Cities Metro Spelling Bee, Saturday, March 13, at the Minnesota History Center.
The local competition featured 39 fifth through eighth grade students from Bloomington Public Schools elementary and middle schools, and students from the area’s private school, Bloomington Lutheran. Oak Grove Middle School’s William Zeng and Valley View Middle School’s Tim Hart placed second and third respectively.
