| Olson Elementary School students win national language arts competition

Olson Elementary School students won highest honors in the WordMasters Challenge, a national language arts competition encouraging growth in vocabulary and verbal reasoning. Competing in the difficult Blue Division of the Challenge the school’s fourth graders placed first in the nation in the year’s first meet last December.
The team competed among 689 other school teams at this grade level and division. Competing for Olson’s team included Elaina Beattie, Charles Bedor, Olivia Bedor, Emma Bonney, Katrina Crow, Joshua Cumming, Marissa Dauner, Emma Eberhard, Stuart Fronk, Rachel Graff, Sabrina Hansen, Charlie Jamieson, Metta Johnson, Emily Jorschumb, Julia Monson, Ellie Norberg, Hayden Peery, Joseph Punnoose, Tom Rajcula, Natalie Raming, Jacob Roy, Duane Sayoco, Francesca Schack, Alexa Schirber, Sydney Tucker, Eleanor Watson and Kierra Wendorf-Finstrom. The team is coached by language arts teacher Ann Broz.
Six students also won highest honors for individual achievement including fourth graders Stuart Frank, Rachel Graff, Emily Jorschumb, Tom Rajcula, Jacob Roy, and Alexa Schriber. These students earned perfect scores in the meet, where only 39 other fourth grade students did so nationwide.
A handful of students also achieved outstanding results including third grader Olivia Neuenfeldt; fourth graders Sabrina Hansen, Charlie Jamieson, Metta Johnson, Ellie Norberg, Hayden Peery, Joseph Punnoose, Duane Sayoco, and Francesca Schack; and fifth grader Danielle Schrank. |
