Kennedy students earn state scholastic art awards
Senior Nan Sinchai recognized with three awards

Kennedy High School seniors Nantaporn Sinchai, Olivia Wood, Karin Johnson, Jen Silverman and Raeann Oxborough are recipients of awards in this year’s Minnesota Scholastic Art Competition.

Sinchai earned a total of three awards, including a Silver Key Award for a mixed media design titled, “Self-Portrait,” and Merit awards for a photograph and her portfolio of 8 artworks. Wood also earned a Silver Key award for her sculpture titled, “Dosage.” Karin Johnson and Jen Silverman received Merit awards for their portfolios of 8 artworks. Raeann Oxborough also earned a Merit award for her jewelry piece.

The students’ works will be on display in the Minneapolis College of Art and Design Concourse Gallery from Jan. 22 through Feb. 21, 2010.

The award show received 1151 individual artwork entries and 161 portfolio entries. The competition awarded 53 Gold Key and 115 Silver Key Awards for individual entries and 10 Gold Key and 18 Silver Key Awards for portfolio entries. Additionally, 150 individual entry and 77 Portfolio Merit Awards were awarded.

The annual Scholastic Art Awards program and accompanying exhibition celebrate young Minnesota artists and teachers. The art awards competition is open to students in grades 7 through 12 from throughout Minnesota.
