March 2, 2010
The Minnesota Elementary School Principals’ Association (MESPA) has awarded Joan Maland, principal of Bloomington Indian Mounds Elementary School, with one of its leadership achievement awards. The award honors principals for leadership efforts to improve education.
Maland has been the principal at Indian Mounds for the past five years, and has seen a dramatic change in the student population. She has led staff development efforts to address the needs of the school’s diverse students. Indian Mounds earned the 2008-09 MESPA Minnesota School of Excellence designation under Maland’s leadership.
“Joan Maland is well respected among her peers for her honesty, integrity and positive work ethic,” said Gail Lewis-Miller, a principal in Hopkins who nominated Maland for the award.
Maland is the current president-elect of MESPA’s West Suburban division, and has served as an adjunct instructor for student teachers at Hamline University for the past 14 years. |
