Fairview Health Services will open a new community clinic later this month at the Pond Family Center, 9600 3rd Ave. So., in a partnership with Bloomington Public Schools to provide affordable medical services to families within the district.
District leaders have been working with Fairview towards opening a clinic for a number of years after identifying a need for underserved families to access health care, and thus provide children with basic health care that leads to a better chance of success in school.
“Over the past decade the population in Bloomington has become much more diverse as more families have moved into this area,” said Superintendent Les Fujitake. “Our studies showed that parents needed a better way to access health care so children will start school without health, social or emotional problems. We’re extremely excited to partner with Fairview and open this valuable community resource.”
The goal of the new clinic is to lessen medical problems and lower medical costs for underserved children and families, said Gail Marback, clinic administrator of Fairview Oxboro Clinic in Bloomington.
The Fairview Pond Center Clinic will begin seeing patients on Tuesday, Oct. 27, from 12:30 to 5 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday, and will provide immunization/shots; infant, child and teen physicals and wellness exams; multi-cultural care; and treatment for acute illnesses.
The new clinic will also house a therapist from Washburn Center for Children to provide assessment and treatment services for children. The assessment helps address parent’s questions about their child’s development, parenting and common emotional and behavior concerns.
“Fairview has always worked very closely with Bloomington Public Schools and we’re thrilled at the dedication they have shown in making this clinic become a reality,” added Marback.
An open house and ribbon cutting ceremony is being planned for Thursday, Oct. 22, from 2-5 p.m. More details will be released shortly. |
