Emergency Information
We
share your concern over the possible emergencies that can occur
when your child is in our care at school. As Minnesotans, we
face the possibility of weather-related emergencies every
year. Global events can affect the routines of schools and families
as well. The information you'll find here is chosen to help you
as parents and us as educators work together as a team on behalf
of your child's safety when emergencies arise:
District Emergency Notification System
Bloomington Public Schools has a communication and emergency notification system that provides District staff the ability to reach all parents, faculty and staff with time-sensitive information within minutes.
The District uses an internet-based service to communicate to parents in the event of an emergency or crisis. The system allows up to six phone numbers and two e-mail addresses per person, as well as text messages to cell phones, PDAs and other text-based devises, and TTY/TDD messages for the hearing impaired.
Parents need to keep their contact information current, and when there are changes notify the school.
Weather Emergencies and Closings
School cancellations or delays are announced by 5-5:30 a.m. whenever possible. When severe weather occurs or is forecast, Superintendent Les Fujitake consults with School District grounds staff, area School Districts, Bloomington Police and the Weather Bureau before deciding whether to delay or cancel classes.
Announcements for school cancellations, early dismissals, late starts or other emergency information also are carried by the following media:
