Chemical Awareness/
Safe & Drug-Free Schools Program
This is Bloomington Public Schools' violence and substance abuse prevention and education program that supports a safe and chemically free school environment.
The program:
- Works to prevent the use of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and other drugs by students and to reduce violent behavior such as bullying, harrassment, and family/dating violence.
- Provides resources and education to parents, school staff, and students on chemical use concerns, and offers assistance on violence related issues.
- Responsible for review and reinforcement of district chemical use policies and procedures.
- Support youth leadership and youth development initiatives, parent education and involvement, school staff professional development, violence prevention and chemical abuse services.
- Works collaboratively with many community agencies to accomplish the goals of reducing and preventing youth alcohol, tobacco, other drug use and to reduce violent behaviors.
