Bloomington Referendum Campaign Earns National Award
Gold Medallion recognizes community relations efforts
Bloomington Public Schools has earned a national award for its 2007 referendum campaign, Unite Bloomington for Schools.
The National School Public Relations Association presented the Gold Medallion award to the district at its 55th Annual Seminar in Washington, D.C. earlier this month. It was one of six awards presented from a field of 50 exemplary public relations programs throughout the United States and Canada.
The national competition award recognized the district's effective community relations efforts to identify voters, recruit volunteers, inform the public through a comprehensive communication effort, and to get out the vote. Bloomington residents approved the operating levy for teaching and learning, which will provide an additional $512 per student in new money beginning in the 2009-2010 school year, and a $3 million capital projects levy for technology.
The NSPRA Gold Medallion Award is the only national competitive award program, which specifically recognizes outstanding, planned, total educational public relations programs.
